Do you not also feel that this impersonality is in danger of trickling down to school and colleges? I found as a History teacher that whilst more structured and supported than at university-level, I often had to make decisions about what area of my practice/workload was going to be compromised for that day or week. The teaching (and thus by default, the relationship building), for KS3 was often on the frontline for this decision!
